The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) and the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) will hold a press conference to launch a third appeal for Madagascar.
This will take place on Tuesday 04th February 2025 at the Seychelles Defence Forces Headquarters at Bel-Eau at 10:00 am.
The RCSS and the SDF have a history of collaborating to provide aid to Madagascar during times of crisis. In March 2022, following severe cyclones that impacted Madagascar, the RCSS, in partnership with the SDF, organized efforts to collect and sort clothing donations and food items for the affected populations. This initiative was part of a broader appeal where the RCSS accepted food items, water, and other basic necessities to support vulnerable communities in Madagascar.
This is an initiative of the Seychelles Defence Forces. The SDF will be conducting a joint exercise in Mahajanga, Madagascar, in April and has thought it ideal to extend a helping hand to its counterpart.
Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will assist in facilitating entry into Madagascar, ensuring smooth coordination and logistical operations.
Madagascar has been severely affected by recurring natural disasters, including cyclones and heavy rains, which have exacerbated food insecurity and left many communities vulnerable. As the rainy season continues, the need for immediate assistance grows, particularly in food supplies for affected populations. Given the challenges faced by Madagascar, including the constant impact of cyclones and the ongoing rainy season, this appeal is a timely and crucial humanitarian action.
The RCSS has previously launched two successful appeals for Madagascar. This third appeal aims to build on past efforts, leveraging established networks and partnerships to make another meaningful impact.
The media is kindly invited to attend the session and to provide coverage.
