Theme: “On the Side of Humanity”

The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) will join the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in commemorating World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on 8 May 2025, under the global theme “On the Side of Humanity.”
A key highlight of this year’s celebration will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) Seychelles, formalizing a new partnership aimed at supporting RCSS in its mission to deliver humanitarian services and promote social responsibility. The short signing ceremony will take place on Thursday 8th May at 10.00a.m, at MCB, Victoria.
This year’s theme pays tribute to the spirit of compassion, neutrality, and solidarity that defines the work of Red Cross and Red Crescent staff and volunteers across the world. It highlights the everyday choices people make to stand in service to others — to respond, to protect, and to uplift — even in the face of adversity.
For the Red Cross Society of Seychelles, this year’s commemoration carries a deeply personal meaning. The Society has continued to provide humanitarian services despite the ongoing structural damage to its headquarters and disruptions to its daily operations. “We have remained present, committed, and active — even while working through our own recovery. This is what it means to be on the side of humanity,” said Ms Marie-May Esparon, Secretary General of the RCSS.
For his part, the RCSS President, Mr Kisnan Tamatave notes that, “We are proud to be launching this partnership with MCB Seychelles. “This is more than a collaboration — it is a powerful step forward in our shared commitment to helping the most vulnerable.”
