For the second day of the RC Net meeting bringing together National Society leaders from East Africa and the Indian Ocean, the emphasis was on COP 27 which will be held in Egypt from the 7th to the 18th November this year. There was a presentation by the COP 27 organizing country. It was the Secretary General of the Egyptian Red Crescent who presented the details on preparations being made to host the event which will bring together Heads of States from all over the world as well as other organizations including the United Nations, Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies amongst others.
The emphasis being stressed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent which encompasses all National Societies in the world, is for all NSs to have ‘one voice’. One thousand (1000) Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers from around the world will be attending the COP 27. COP 27 is an annual event. Discussions were based on; preparations of volunteers to participate in COP 27, available fundings for climate change programs as well as other points. On the part of Seychelles, the new RC Net Vice President for East Africa and Indian Ocean Region, also the President of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles, Kisnan Tamatave, pointed out the specificities of Small Island States and the promises made by bigger countries on these issues and the actions being taken by the Federation, IFRC, to ensure that these promises are kept.
The RC Net meeting is being held in Nairobi Kenya from the 4th to the 7th May and the RCSS is being represented by the President of the NS, Kisnan Tamatave and the Secretary General, Ms. Marie-May Esparon.
