The Red Cross Society of Seychelles, RCSS, will be holding a Volunteer training on Disaster Risk Reduction, DRR, for some twenty (20) of its volunteers and staff to enhance their knowledge and capacity of the school population and community on disaster risk preparedness. The training is part of a project agreement between the RCSS and the Indian Ocean Regional Intervention Platform (PIROI) 2023 Disaster Management Cooperation aimed at reducing the impact of natural disasters,
The workshop will be led by Ms. Zoe Trevisan, Head of the PIROI DRR Department, and will take place at the Roche Caiman Community Center as from Monday November 6th to Wednesday 7th November 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A crucial component of the Red Cross’s strategy in disaster risk reduction is the commitment and participation of community volunteers.
Through increased awareness of disaster risks, the training would assist community volunteers and individuals to gain a deeper grasp of the concept and importance of disaster risk reduction. In addition, the training will improve Enhance Vulnerability Capacity Assessment, EVCA’s, awareness, along with the several participatory techniques and resources that enable communities to gather and utilize data for community preparedness and response planning. Likewise, there will be hands-on demonstrations of the way to employ EVCA tools to support this.
