The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) is organizing an information session to inform partners, including media houses in Seychelles on the RCSS SeyCCAT project’s purpose, expected outcomes, public and community expectations, ongoing activities, and how it fits into the overall national strategy.
This is scheduled to take place at the Roche Caiman District Administration on Monday, October 28, 2024, between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.
As part of the project “Supporting Climate Change Adaptation in the Seychelles through Anticipatory Action & Last-Mile Community Early Warning Systems,” the RCSS will be assisting Seychelles to establish Early Action Protocols (EAP). This follows the RCSS’s receiving of a two million Seychelles Rupee (SCR 2,000,000) grant earlier this year to assist Anticipatory Action & Last-Mile Community Early Warning Systems for Climate Change Adaptation in the Seychelles.
Together with Ms. Divina Sabino and Ms. Erna Victor – the two consultants who are contributing to the National EAP, Mr. Benjamin Vel, the Project Manager for the RCSS SEYCCAT Project, will be leading the session.
The main objective of the project is to create National Early Action Plans (EAPs) to mitigate the adverse impacts that flash floods and storm surges can have on people and infrastructure, including homes and livelihoods. The project has the following objectives:
- Develop early warning systems for vulnerable communities.
- Develop a comprehensive communication plan for its rollout of the protocol.
- Reduce vulnerability to storm surges and floods.
- Strengthen multi-stakeholder coordination for storm surges and flash flood management.
In this approach, the project intends to pinpoint the priorities for strengthening preparedness protocols and creating reliable last mile early warning systems reaching the vulnerable in the community.
The media is kindly invited to attend the session and to provide coverage.
