COVID-19 pandemic presents what is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges ever faced by humanitarian organisations . As such as an organization we have no option but to side -line approaches such as ‘Post Covid’ or ‘Covid recovery’ and concentrate our efforts to continuously assess different components of our operation whist always focusing on our ultimate goal ‘reaching out to the most vulnerable in our communities and beyond’.
Through Voluntary services, Red Cross Society of Seychelles has been actively involved in the management of the ‘COVID 19’ crisis through different activities such as contact tracing, assisting families with basic necessities, educational and sensitization programs, psychosocial support, just to name a few.
Besides the COVID 19, the volunteers of the Red Cross need to be more prepared in the event of other disasters, and the pandemic restrictions have disrupted the availability of volunteers to participate in face-to-face preparedness training sessions in case of other disasters. The National Society needed to adopt innovative ways which consequently requires additional resources.
Today we celebrate the many volunteers of the Red Cross and other organisations who despite their own challenges, come forward to offer their time and services to help those in need. It does not matter, how many minutes or resources you contributed, but as long as you are dedicated and passionate to help through voluntary service you are already making a difference. As mother Theresa said,
‘We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” — Mother Teresa
Together we can achieve a lot – Together we are ‘UNSTOPPABLE’… Happy Volunteers Day!
