The theme, “United in Humanity” reminds us that true humanity begins when we take the time to listen, care, and understand one another.
The word “United” reminds us that humanity is strongest when people come together with compassion, understanding, and solidarity. Today, we are reminded that humanity is not only what we do, but how we respond to one another.
In this spirit, we particularly remember the forest fire on Praslin. We acknowledge with deep appreciation the dedication and commitment of all those who were engaged in fighting the blaze, all those who supported the response in any way, and all who took time to help, pray, and think about those affected and those working tirelessly on the ground.
The Red Cross Society of Seychelles’ staff and volunteers were among the first responders to support the response — working tirelessly to help make life better for others in this situation. This reflects who we are: we are united, always in humanity. To our volunteers and staff who are always present, who consistently respond to the call for action, and who give their time, energy, and compassion without hesitation — we celebrate you, and we thank you.
On this note, we also call on all parties — especially the relevant authorities — to ensure that appropriate legislation and frameworks are in place to better protect and support those who care for others. Those who respond first, those who give without expecting anything in return, and those who stand at the frontlines of humanity must themselves be protected and supported. Caring for the carers is also what it means to be united in humanity.
On the 8th of May, the Red Cross Society of Seychelles proudly joins the global Red Cross and Red Crescent family in paying tribute to the millions of volunteers and staff worldwide who dedicate themselves to serving humanity with courage, compassion, humility, and commitment.
The Red Cross Society of Seychelles extends its gratitude to all volunteers, staff, partners, and communities who continue to serve with compassion and courage.
The RCSS also acknowledges the strong collaboration and support from Ministries, departments, agencies, as well as local and international partners. Thank you for believing in the RCSS and for caring alongside us in moments that matter most.
Let us continue to listen, care, act, and protect — united in humanity.
Happy World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2026.
