Mr Chrystold Chetty’s nomination for the International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent, IFRC, Vice-President accepted

The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) is proud to announce that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Elections Committee has accepted the nomination of Mr Chrystold Chetty for the position of Vice-President for Africa.

The election will take place during the IFRC General Assembly at the end of November 2026, where delegates will elect a new President and representatives of 20 National Societies to the IFRC Governing Board.

Mr Chetty brings more than 37 years of experience within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, having served at national, regional and international levels. He was the founding President of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles and currently serves as its Honorary President.

His distinguished service includes membership of the Regional Red Cross Network in East Africa, the presidency of the Association of Francophone, Hispanophone and Lusophone National Societies of Africa (ACROFA), and ten years as Chair of the IFRC Finance Commission. He also served on the IFRC Governing Board and spent four years as Vice-Chair of the Standing Commission before being appointed to chair its Elections Committee.

These roles have provided Mr Chetty with extensive experience in humanitarian leadership, governance, financial accountability and cooperation among National Societies worldwide.

Under his manifesto, “Together for a Resilient Tomorrow,” Mr Chetty envisions a stronger, more inclusive and accountable Federation in which National Societies of all sizes are supported and their voices heard. His priorities include strengthening National Societies, promoting trust and accountability, building equitable partnerships, investing in volunteers and young leaders, and advancing humanitarian diplomacy and responsible innovation.

For Africa, his vision places particular emphasis on climate-related risks, disaster preparedness, community health, displacement, food security, protection and inclusion.

Mr Chetty is campaigning across the IFRC network of 191 National Societies. He faces competition for the Africa Vice-Presidency from Mr Lazare Zoungrana of the Burkinabe Red Cross Society. Other candidates are also contesting the Vice-President positions representing the remaining regions.

If elected, Mr Chetty has pledged to listen to National Societies, represent their concerns fairly and strengthen unity across the Federation, serving with humility, integrity and accountability.

The Red Cross Society of Seychelles considers the acceptance of Mr Chetty’s nomination a significant milestone for the National Society and an opportunity to highlight the contribution that Seychellois leadership can make to the wider humanitarian Movement. His candidacy also offers an opportunity for African National Societies to contribute to shaping the Federation’s future and strengthening its global humanitarian mission.

The Red Cross Society of Seychelles wishes Mr Chrystold Chetty every success in his candidacy.
