RCSS conducting NDRT Training of Volunteers

Recognising the role that volunteers play at community level and the importance of a coordinated and effective disaster and emergency response, the RCSS will be holding a National Disaster Response Team (NDRT) training for some twenty (20) of its volunteers who all participate in the response of emergencies and disasters that occur in communities.

The training will be taking place at the RCSS Headquarters, Providence on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st October 2023, from 9.00 a.m. – 3 p.m., and will be facilitated by Sandra Sabury, NDRT Trainer of the RCSS.

The training aims to ensure that the RCSS is adequately prepared for disasters as well as ensure that those involved better understand disaster response, comprehend the mechanism and procedures of the RCSS for disaster response, and have a better understanding of the assessment cycle. This will also help the RCSS better identify the plan of action, its newly-reviewed Contingency Plan and be more equipped for coordination and communication during a disaster.

This training is part of the regional program for disaster risk management, supported by the Indian Ocean Regional Intervention Platform (PIROI), the Red Cross Society of Seychelles is undertaking a series of activities aimed at strengthening its management capacity and effective approach to disaster response through national and community-based structures and capacity building.
