The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) has successfully developed the first draft of its Volunteer Pathway following a Training Needs Analysis Workshop conducted in collaboration with the Training and Research Unit of the PIROI Centre. This is the first such workshop to be done by the National Society.
Once completed the Volunteer Pathway will provide a structured framework for volunteer recruitment, induction, training, development, and leadership progression, helping to strengthen volunteer engagement and retention across the National Society.
The workshop, funded by the Indian Ocean Regional Intervention Platform, PIROI, was designed to support RCSS in strengthening its prevention, preparedness, and response capacities through a review of its current organizational structure and an assessment of the training needs of staff and volunteers. Participants, comprising of RCSS staff and volunteers identified key capacity gaps and priority areas for development to ensure that RCSS remains effective and responsive in meeting the humanitarian needs of communities across Seychelles.
The workshop highlighted the need for continued capacity building in areas such as disaster preparedness and response, first aid, community engagement, emergency assessments, leadership, communication, and volunteer management. These findings will guide the development of a structured training plan tailored to the needs of RCSS staff and volunteers.
This project is part of phase 3 of the Three Oceans project, which aims to help build the resilience of territories in the three ocean basins (Caribbean, Indian and Pacific Oceans) to disaster risks, health crises, the effects of climate change and gender inequalities. A workshop which was conducted by Mr Nicholas Morel, the Training and Research Manager from PIROI at Voila Guest House, Beau-Vallon on the 10th and 11th May 2026.
This initiative represents an important milestone in strengthening the organizational capacity of RCSS and contributes to the development of a more resilient, skilled, and prepared National Society.
