The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF)

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) and the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) has been signed between Brigadier Michael Rosette of the SDF and the RCSS Secretary General, Ms. Marie-May Esparon.

This was done during the official opening ceremony to kick of a series of activities to commemorate the 47th Defence forces day held on Monday 25th November 2024 at the Military Training and Support Centre- Ile Perseverance.

The MOU aims to establish a formal partnership for first aid training and services as well as enhance the first aid capabilities of military personnel and the broader community as emphasis on first aid training is one of the top priorities for both parties,

The SDF will benefit from cost-effective training opportunities for its members, while RCSS-certified SDF instructors will conduct training for both military personnel and civilians” explained Ms. Esparon.

Additionally, the agreement allows for resource sharing, joint development of training programmes and mutual support in first aid-related activities, strengthening both organizations’ capacities to respond to emergencies and promote public health and safety.

Following the signing of the MOU, two new First Aid Instructors from the SDF, Mr. Sandy Ernesta and Mr. Aaron Barrack were also presented with their certificates.

The ceremony also comprised of presentation of long service awards for military personnel and civilian staff celebrating 30 years of service and above. In the same ceremony, the participants and winners of local television programme “Battlefeel”  were awarded, and prominent Seychellois artist, Mr Patrick Victor, also graced the stage to perform a patriotic song, “Premye Sesel”.

The event was attended by distinguished guests including Vice President Ahmed Afif, Honorable Clifford Andre, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ted Barbe, Director General SIS, Mr. Benediste Hoareau, members of the Defence Force council and invitees from different units as well as various civil departments that the SDF works in collaboration with.
