The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) commemorated World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day with the theme “Keeping Humanity Alive” at the RCSS headquarter at Providence this morning. The RCSS Secretary General launched the day by recognizing the basic qualities and goodness that each and every individual possesses when we watch out for and assist our communities. The day is an opportunity every year to celebrate our network of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers, reaffirm our unwavering commitment to a common humanity, and reflect on our Fundamental Principles.
Following the launch, water safety equipment was donated to the Seychelles Fishers and Boat Owners Association (SFBOA) which included blankets, whistles and life rings. As well as the donation of items, RCSS staff accepted tokens as a show of appreciation for all the work that the National Society does for the community. This was presented by fifteen (15) Miss Etoile pageant contestants as part and parcel of their journey in the pageant.
A few more activities were scheduled by the RCSS for the afternoon, one of which was the First Aid Certificate Presentation at the Grand Anse Community Centre’ in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA). To end the day, the paramedics at the Seychelles hospital accepted donations of trauma board straps, AEDs, and suction machines to help facilitate them when assisting others on field.
On World Red Cross Day, we honour the vital role that staff, volunteers and allies of the global humanitarian organization play and urge others to continue lending a helping hand to those in need.
