Today we honour the resilience of all those affected by the 2023 explosions. Two years on, the scars remain, but we continue to recognise the strength of our communities and the way the Seychellois people came together selflessly to support one another. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go to the families who lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods and their sense of security. Many are still struggling to rebuild their lives, and many continue to carry the psychological impact of this disaster.
For those of us who were there from day one and who remain committed today, we continue to honour the unsung heroes, both victims and responders. The selfless actions and courage shown by so many are what give meaning to our mission. To the volunteers and staff of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles, we say thank you. We were there, we lived it, and some of us almost lost our lives.
We will always remember this day as one that revealed our true strength and reminded us why we serve as volunteers for one of the leading humanitarian organisations in the country and across the world. Lest we forget.
