World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2024 – Keeping Humanity Alive

Every year on May 8th, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement commemorates its founding principles with an international celebration known as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.

This year’s theme, “Keeping Humanity Alive” looks at all the goodness that comes from each of us when we look out for others and support our communities, whilst also promoting the protection of human life.

The theme encourages people to keep cultivating traits like empathy, compassion, and giving to others as we never know how much these qualities can mean to those who are in need.

To therefore celebrate WRCRC Day 2024 and to honour the theme, the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) is organizing a series of activities which includes:

  • The launching of the WRCRC Day at the headquarter followed by donations of items.
  • Blood drive with RCSS staff and volunteers.
  • Message by the RCSS President to commemorate the day.
  • Psychosocial Support Session (PSP) with parents from Autism Seychelles.
  • Table discussion of this year’s theme on SBC AM Radio.
  • Presentation of first batch of First Aid Certificates with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA).

The main event will be the hosting of a ceremony to launch the day and present donations to some of our partners on Wednesday 08th May, at 10.30 a.m. at the RCSS head-quarters.

The donations will include: – Blankets, life rings, whistles, trauma board straps, and AED & amp; Suction Machines which will be presented to the Seychelles Fishing Boat Owners Association (FBOA), the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

As well as the donation of items, RCSS staff and volunteers will also be accepting tokens for their continuous work being done for the community from the Mister & MISS Etoile pageant contestants as part and parcel of their journey in the pageant.

On World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, we recognize the crucial role that has been performed by the staff, volunteers, and patrons of the global humanitarian movement who has helped communities all over the world. The day is an opportunity every year to celebrate our network of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers, reaffirm our unwavering commitment to a common humanity, and reflect on our Fundamental Principles.

The media is kindly invited to provide coverage for the activities.
