Renovations Underway at the Red Cross Society of Seychelles Headquarters

Following the explosion of December 7th 2023, which caused significant damage to the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) headquarters, the much-needed renovations have officially begun, offering a sense of relief to the operational team.

The building, located in Providence, suffered extensive damage, with windows and doors blown out and equipment’s destroyed. The resulting exposure left both the building and its staff vulnerable to flooding during rainstorms, which compounded the challenges faced.

In the aftermath of the explosion, the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) stepped forward to offer support. Acknowledging the crucial role the RCSS plays in the community, MCB Seychelles has committed to supporting the restoration of the headquarters. Their contribution goes beyond just rebuilding a structure—it ensures the RCSS can continue providing life-saving services to those in need. By investing in the headquarters’ renovation, MCB is investing in the future well-being of the entire community, allowing the RCSS to sustain its vital work.

The RCSS is thrilled to see this support come to life as renovations began earlier this week. As of March 21st 2025, windows in three offices have been replaced, with the remainder expected to be completed next week. The shutter doors in the right wing, which were completely damaged, have been repaired, while the left wing has had its components fixed. The possibility of installing an electric motor to replace the manual handles is also being explored. Work will continue next week with the installation of windows in the other offices.

To ensure the continued operation of the RCSS, staff have temporarily relocated to the Onivo Complex at Perseverance 1, where they are maintaining operations and carrying out activities as usual.
